In the build up to the monumental event that will be Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of June, Radio 1 and 1xtra have been doing an amazing job inspiring the local people of Hackney with their ‘Hackney Academy‘. Which aims to give advice, and help people on their way into various sectors, with film, music, and notably journalism. Last Friday, Fearne Cotton and Trevor Nelson gave Professor Green the Live Lounge time where he played out “Remedy” and his version of Adele’s “Hometown Glory” live.
Today the microphone was handed over to Rita Ora, and well, it was just further confirmation of her exceptional talents. Kicking off with a beaut of an acoustic version of her number 1 single, “R.I.P“, then finishing with a remarkable cover of Jay Z and Kanye West’s “No Church In The Wild“, which just blew me away. Just didn’t expect anything like that from her, even if she is singed to Jay’s label. An acoustic, fully sung version of the opener of one of the biggest hip-hop albums in recent history, shouldn’t sound this good. Well bloody done, Rita, take a bow.
Take a listen to the two performances below – unfortuantely, for now, you’ll have to listen back to Fearne Cotton’s show from this morning, so go HERE, and fast forward to 1 hour 35minutes, and then to the cover (1hour 45minutes)! But you can download the “No Church In The Wild” cover HERE! (in.D-K Music)
