Michael Kiwanuka & Dan Auerbach – Lasan

What happens when you put Michael Kiwanuka and Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) in a room together? Well, this happens – and the musical baby born out of this relatiobship goes by the name of “Lasan”.

We first heard of this possible hook-up a few weeks ago, but who knew that we would see the end product quite so soon. No complaints here, though. With Auerbach behind the boards on this, he manages to make Kiwanuka’s voice sound even more rich than it normally is. Whilst you can hear the Black Keys’ sound represented reasonably here, this is an example of a perfect marriage of the two styles.

No word on an official release date or download, so keep an eye out here and we’ll keep you updated. Check out “Lasan” below – serious vibes on this one.

  1. Thanks for this 🙂

I think when you’re named BBC newcomer 2012, suddenly everyone expects your debut album to be an original, perfect revelation of new music. Everyone takes a very close look to see what the fuss is about. While other young singers might get the chance to slowly develop their style, Michael Kiwanuka is out there, NOW, in the spotlight.

I like the new album and I personally prefer the quieter songs because they let Kiwanuka’s beautiful voice carry the song. At times, the fuller arrangements felt too overpowering, and sometimes they even distracted from the voice and melody (I wrote a bit more here: http://wp.me/p1ZpT1-rx).

I’m curious how he is on stage, so I bought tickets to the Cambridge concert in May.
