Well, well, well. Just took a listen to this track and it’s absolutely mind-blowing. Premiered over on UKF (as so much is nowadays), this is drum and bass duo Loadstar’s rework of Noisia’s “Tommy’s Theme”, due out on Mau5trap on 27th February as a part of the ‘Split The Atom: Special Edition’ record.
The beginning of this has taken a large number of people off guard. The orchestration sounds like it belongs in a whimsical Disney cartoon, but it soon transcends into an increasingly atmospheric track – the synths and percussion providing an unspeakably enormous sound… and then post-drop it is typical Loadstar. The basslines are deep, and can be almost felt, while the drum beat carries the high-energy and pounding assault on the ears flowing.
These guys masterminded a remix of Ed Sheeran’s “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” that was one of my top reworks of last year. And it seems as though they’ve bettered themselves here. The original also can’t go without a mention, and Noisia’s production values are on-point, as per the usual. It amazes me how they can make the sounds that they do when making music. One of the most talented and legendary acts in electronic music today.
Take a listen to the Loadstar remix of “Tommy’s Theme” below, and watch for the album when it drops at the end of February. Massive.
