Back with a second in the Soundhall 180 series, and this one’s a cracker. He’s Example’s tour DJ and a manager at MTA Records (Chase and Status, Nero, Redlight), but 2012 should be the year that DJ Wire, a straight-up brilliant producer, makes his true breakthrough to the public consciousness.
Described by Tom Coxhead from The House of Coxhead as “one of the best DJs in the world”, he’s put together a sick 3 minute mix for you all, featuring some brand new material from Mr. Wire as well as some of the anthems of the past 12 months. The new release ‘Brothers/Band of Outsiders’ is forthcoming on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label soon, so you should all definitely keep an extra special eye out for that… judging by the little previews here, it’s gonna be pretty damn heavy. I caught up with Wire to have a chat about his musical past, touring with Example as well as his 2012. Catch the mix (and your free download) and that below…
1.Sam Wire – Band of Outsiders
2.Skrillex – Rock and Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain)
3.Porter Robinson – Unison (Knife Party remix)
4.Nero – Crush (Killsonik remix)
>>>Sbtrkt – Wildfire
5.Buraka Som Sistema – Ba Ba Ba (Caspa remix)
6.Sam Wire – Brothers
1. Introduce who you are and what you do…
My name is Sam Wire I set up and run MTA Records with Chase and Status.
I produce music for myself and others.
2. How did you get involved in music? Did you come from a musical family or was it just something you’ve always wanted to do?
I started messing around with Keyboards and experimenting with pulling sound samples from the internet at school in the lunch hour when I was 12/13.
3. How did you come about becoming Example’s tour DJ?
I was playing a lot of drum and bass in london at the time and releasing records with Danny Wheeler. I met chase and status at herbal and around the time I started working with them, they referred me to Example, he was looking for a DJ to play in his live show, I met him at a pub in Fulham and started straight away -this was 4 years ago
4. Touring with Example must have been pretty crazy at times, but what’s been the best place that you’ve been to on tour?
I’ve done more tours with Elliot than I can remember but the best place would have to be NYE just gone – played to 25,000 people in a vine yard in New Zealand -finishing at midnight
5. What’s your favourite track that you’ve ever produced?
Favourite track is probably “Won’t Believe The Fools” which was for Example’s album which I have a gold disk for.
6. You’ve got this track coming out on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label, ‘Brothers’, tell us all about that…
I made 2 tracks quite quickly about 2 months ago – “Band of Outsiders” and “Brothers” – sent them to Steve via email, he asked to sign then straight away – simple really. He’s very quick on things which I like. Both have been received really well – the promo is just starting.
7. What does 2012 have in store for you…
2012 will be more DJ shows with Example (12 in Ibiza alone).
