After over a month of voting, the curtain has finally closed on the inaugrual Soundhall Stars of 2012 competition, which aimed to bring you the freshest new artists, and ultimately find the next big thing. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who offerred their suggestions and voted in the poll, without you this would have just been one big waste of time. You can read the original article HERE, for all of the artists involved, their profiles and tracks.
And I can now officially reveal the final results of the contest! Here we go…
Big up to Ryan Keen for winning! The Devon-born singer/songwriter garnered over half of the total vote in the poll, proving to be exceptionally popular with Soundhall readers. And this win definitely isn’t in vain. With a stop-motion video from the makers of Rastamouse forthcoming, as well as remix and collaboration projects on the horizon, it looks like 2012 is going to be a pretty big year for Mr. Keen.
Collecting the silver medal in the competition is Bath-born singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, with her brand of magical folk/pop winning 14% of the overall vote. With her EP ‘Home’ out tomorrow and over 200,000 views on the official video for the record’s title track, it’s safe to say we should probably keep an eye out on Miss. Aplin in the coming months.
Third place: Lana Del Rey
One of the most hyped stars in recent memory, Lana Del Rey releases her debut album ‘Born To Die’ this month. If the lead single ‘Video Games’ is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a damn good record.
