Robert Glasper – Ah Yeah (feat. Musiq Soulchild & Chrisette Michele)

I don’t normally post about this sort of music on here. If you’re expecting some heavy dubstep or indie-rock, this is probably where you get off.

Still here? Damn straight. I just discovered this track, and felt the desperate urge to share its brilliance with you all. It comes courtesy of Houston-born jazz artist Robert Glasper, and the track is called ‘Ah Yeah’ – the lead single to be taken from his forthcoming album ‘Black Radio’, due out on the 28th February. Featuring Musiq Soulchild and Chrisette Michele on guest vocals, it’s an extremely accomplished smooth jazz record that will have you chilled out within an instant. The layers in this track balance each other perfectly – piano, vocals and harmonies and the beat all go in to making this one hell of a track.

Here in Britain, we don’t get a lot of exposure to this kind of music… and it’s a great shame. I’ve visited America on a few occasions and there are hundreds, if not thousands of dedicated smooth jazz stations which play records just like this one. I feel as though we’re all missing out.

With Glasper being earmarked by the L.A Times as “One To Watch” in 2012, it seems as though this is going to be getting a lot of love, hopefully on both sides of the Atlantic. Failing that, it’ll be in heavy rotation on my iTunes for sure.

Take a look at the official lyric video below…
