Premiered on Mistajam’s show on Monday night as part of 1Xtra’s ‘Hot 20 For 2012’, here is some brand new material from urban songstress Delilah, taken from her forthcoming debut album. Entitled ‘Never Be Another’, it marks quite a change of direction for the London singer/songwriter, especially from her last single ‘Love You So’.
Produced by Balistiq, the sound is far more abstract and less mainstream than we’ve come to expect of Delilah thus far. I’ve been a big fan of her work so far, and this new track only increases my love for her music. Featuring a post-dubstep style drum beat and futuristic-sounding synths, the guys in Balistiq have managed to create a rather minimalistic instrumental despite the complex and well-layered samples, and this compliments Delilah’s warm vocal exceptionally. Got to hand it to these guys, whenever they’re in the studio together, magic happens.
One of my favourite artists around, and definitely one of the brightest talents on the UK scene. If she manages to bring this level of diversity into her debut record, which is due out this year, we could have a superstar on our hands.
